51FIFTY Rider has Highs and Lows in AZ

Jake Canada Phoenix Supercross Report

Livingston, CA (January 14, 2014) – 51FIFTY rider Jake Canada had confidence going into the first 250 Heat race of the night at Chase Field in Phoenix, AZ.  With a strong 51FIFTY debut race at Anaheim, a solid week of practice and lap times near the fastest Factory riders from timed practice earlier in the day, Jake Canada could not wait for the gate to drop.

Canada, aboard his CRF250, timed the gate perfectly, with the Dunlop tires hookingBDW57005 up he rocketed into the first turn in 3rd.  On the tight track, a wide line which Jake was forced to take, allowed a couple of riders to pass early on in the heat.  Canada continued to put in fast, consistent lap times and held off, and made time, on the determined pack behind him in route to a relatively easy transfer to the main.

While the vibe around the 51FIFTY pits shifted focus from fan interaction (a CRF250/Las Vegas Give-away, Autograph Signings, Give-Aways) to race mode, there was a palpable confidence amongst Jake and the team.  As a relatively new team, without the benefit of factory parts, the goal of Top 5 seemed a distinct possibility; and to do so in front of 50,000+ fans would’ve been icing on the cake.

With Fox Sports Live cameras pointed at Jake, the gate dropped for the 250 Main.  BDW57370With the deepest field in years, it was the Proven Moto-built CRF250 engine of the #66 that was up front early.  Getting pushed a bit wide in the next turn, Jake sat in a solid 4th with 18 riders pushing from behind. Unfortunately for Canada, he collided mid-air with another rider, landed, hit a tuff-block and careened off the track.  After a few tense seconds, the likable Sun City native walked over to his bike to reenter the race, entered the track, but was simply too sore to finish the race.

While the final result was disappointing, there are positives we take away from Arizona, “ explains 51FIFTY Team Manager, Jeremy Coker. “Jake will sit out a few days of practice but is expected to make a full recovery and be ready next weekend for Anaheim #2.”
